Namaste

I live, learn and work in the land of the Wangal people in Sydney.

My Journey

I came to Australia over thirty years ago as a skilled migrant, acquired a PhD from the University of New South Wales and worked as a computer scientist till 2020. I am now a full time writer of historical fiction. Research is the common theme that links my past and present.

My transition from a computer scientist to a writer of historical fiction has been an eventful journey, learning new facts about creative writing and hidden patterns of story-telling. I took several creative writing courses and acquired the knowledge and skills essential to craft historical novels that will appeal to publishers and readers.

I have come to realise that writing is both an art and a science; and a well-crafted story is a beautiful piece of art executed with microscopic precision.

My south Indian roots have helped me create characters who are resilient, tenacious and believe in the inherent goodness of the human spirit.

In terms of literary affiliations, I am a graduate of the Australian Writers Centre, a Member of Writing New South Wales, a Member of Historical Novel Society of Australasia and an Associate Member of Australian Society of Authors.

My Travel Stories

I love travelling and sharing my thoughts while on the road, all expressed in my travel blog that has grown over the years. This blog site is a diary of my travels recorded each day while I am travelling. I find this an interesting way to be in touch with family and friends while recording my observations from the current location. While the posts are spontaneous, some pages like the Banana Flower Salad recipe are added to capture some information that is timeless and spicy 🙂.

What I am upto now!

When I am not reading or writing, or giving talks about my journey as a writer, I play a Carnatic raga on the Veena or practice Bach’s Arioso on the piano.

While I am now a full time writer, I continue as an Adjunct Professor at Western Sydney University, where I work out my past karma, by mentoring data science students, who in turn are convincing me to have a better social media presence.

Etched in Gold is my first original novel. It was shortlisted by Penguin Random House Australia for the 2023 Write It fellowship.

I am currently working on my second novel, also set in south India, when Europe’s gaze was set on India and The British East India Company started trading in textiles.
